Reimagining Retirement: Holistic Cognitive Health

The Association of Retirement Organizations in Higher Education (AROHE), with support from Fidelity Investments®, is offering a series of free webinars exploring the cognitive side of retirement.
The virtual learning series, “Reimagining Retirement: Holistic Cognitive Health,” is designed to help attendees clarify their goals and embrace the changes that occur during life’s next chapter. The series will explore a comprehensive approach to cognitive well-being in retirement. To register, go to arohe.org > Reimagining Retirement 2025.
From the science of memory and forgetting to strategies for navigating transitional phases, each session is designed to offer valuable insights into maintaining cognitive health. The series will conclude with a panel of retirees sharing personal stories and tips for managing cognitive wellness, and fostering a supportive and informed community around aging.
February 25, 12 p.m. CT. “Healthy Cognition: The Science of Memory and Forgetting.” Charan Ranganath, professor of psychology and neuroscience, University of California, Davis.
March 11, 12 p.m. CT. “Navigating Change: Strategies for Transitional Times.” E. Ayn Welleford, associate professor, Department of Gerontology, Virginia Commonwealth University, and, Katie Gilstrap, associate professor, School of Business, Virginia Commonwealth University.
March 25, 12 p.m. CT. “Personal Stories: Tips from Retirees on Managing Cognitive Health.” Moderator Gigi Amateau, assistant professor, Department of Gerontology, Virginia Commonwealth University, with panelists of AROHE members.
Founded in 2002, AROHE is a non-profit membership organization that promotes the engagement of retired faculty and staff from institutions of higher education in the U.S. and Canada. AROHE knows that higher education retirees are assets of society who reinvent life, positively impact their communities, and contribute to the greater good.

The UMRA Hiking Club will hike two wonderful county parks in Monticello, MN on Monday, July 7. Lynn Anderson will lead the hikes and we will meet at her home at 9:30 a.m. and carpool from there.
Our July 14 "hike" is a kayaking adventure on Bde Maka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun) and Lake of the Isles led by Barb Friedman and Bev Moe.
The UMRA Book Club will discuss Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid when it meets via Zoom on July 18.
Bill Doherty's April Living Well Workshop, Dealing with differences in a polarized world, inspired many UMRA members. He has very graciously agreed to hold a Skills for Disagreeing Better workshop for us in July. You will learn about the values and concerns of the other political side and practice skills for communicating more effectively in the presence of disagreement.
