UMRA Cruise on the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway

You are invited–join other UMRA members and friends for a late summer river cruise, this year on the Saint Croix River.
Departing from: Stillwater Riverboat Company dock, in downtown Stillwater. Boarding begins at 10:30. Departure is 11am sharp.
Tickets: $55/person for a 2.5 hour private charter cruise on the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway. Includes lunch, a cash bar, and the excellent company of friends and colleagues.
Stillwater, one of Minnesota’s oldest towns, was the site of the first territorial convention to make Minnesota a state. Incorporated in 1854, Stillwater is older than Minneapolis, and it’s wearing its age gracefully.
Make a day of it! Other attractions in Stillwater:
- Stillwater Trolley Co. has live-narrated tours with knowledgeable drivers that go through the hilly river town, highlighting the history, folklore, and mansions of Stillwater.
- Self-guided walking tours of the historic highlights of Stillwater.
- Guided tours of the Washington County Courthouse.
- A walk to Wisconsin and back across the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge (now pedestrians and bicycles only).
- Shopping and ice cream in downtown Stillwater.

A lunch buffet on board will include a choice of sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, fresh fruit, and a cookie. A vegetarian option is available when you register. There will be a cash bar on board for the purchase of soft drinks or beer, wine, or cocktails.
There are enclosed and open-air parts of the boat, and the cruise will be on, rain or shine. Please dress for the weather.

- Stillwater Trolley Co. has live-narrated tours with knowledgeable drivers that go through the hilly river town, highlighting the history, folklore, and mansions of Stillwater at $14 for the "senior" rate. A trolley tour leaves at 2 p.m. from 400 E. Nelson Street, just 1.5 blocks from the boat dock. Advance reservations are recommended
- Self-guided walking tours of the historic highlights of Stillwater. These are free and will include walking some hills.
- Guided tour of the Washington County Courthouse. Free, with one of the tours at 3:00 p.m. Parking is free at the courthouse.
- A walk to Wisconsin and back across the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge (now pedestrians and bicycles only), or hike the whole 4.7 mile St. Croix River Crossing Loop Trail

Jane Kirtley, JD, will be the guest speaker for UMRA’s luncheon forum on Tuesday, November 18. She will discuss challenges to preserving academic freedom and independent speech during the Trump Administration, and how institutions should respond to the unprecedented attacks on their independence.
Cathy Lee Gierke will present photos and talk about her cruise on the Rhine river, Italian Switzerland, Lake Como and Iceland -- and the history, culture and geology along the way.
Librarian Naomi Skulan and Associate Professor Kevin Whalen will present research on the Sacred Heart School for Indians and Morris Industrial School for Indians.
Book Club I will discuss An Unfinished Love Story by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Please join Michael Luxenberg on Monday, December 1, for a hike that is approximately 5 miles in length at an average pace of roughly 18–20 minutes per mile for our second hike this fall in the beautiful Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington.
