William O'Brien State Park

Our October 7 hike will be a reprise of our hike last summer at William O'Brien State Park. This is a beautiful park with a winding trail and a great view of the countryside. The hike is about 5.5 to 6 miles and we'll go at a moderate pace with frequent water breaks. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat. After the hike, we will eat lunch at Rustic Roots Winery, a half mile north of the park. Rustic Roots vineyard will remind you of Sonoma Valley; it's really beautiful. It has a nice selection of their wines and nonalcoholic beverages, as well as an interesting lunch menu. We will meet at William O'Brien State Park at 9:30. You must have or purchase a parking sticker to enter the park. Day stickers are $7. We will arrange for carpools for those coming from the city. Last year several of our club members who live in the northern and eastern suburbs met us there.
Please sign up for this hike (required). Indicate in Comments if you want to drive or ride in a carpool. Your completed form will be used to be sure everyone has arrived. Registrations will be accepted up to 24 hours before the hike.

The UMRA Hiking Club will hike two wonderful county parks in Monticello, MN on Monday, July 7. Lynn Anderson will lead the hikes and we will meet at her home at 9:30 a.m. and carpool from there.
Our July 14 "hike" is a kayaking adventure on Bde Maka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun) and Lake of the Isles led by Barb Friedman and Bev Moe.
The UMRA Book Club will discuss Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid when it meets via Zoom on July 18.
Bill Doherty's April Living Well Workshop, Dealing with differences in a polarized world, inspired many UMRA members. He has very graciously agreed to hold a Skills for Disagreeing Better workshop for us in July. You will learn about the values and concerns of the other political side and practice skills for communicating more effectively in the presence of disagreement.
