Gerald Rinehart retired in 2013 after 10 years as the University’s vice provost and dean of students and 20 years as the Carlson School of Management (CSOM) assistant dean of students, where  he spearheaded its successful conversion from an upper division to a freshman-admitting college.

As vice provost he led the development and adoption of the Student Development Outcomes for undergraduates, initiated a strength-based approach to student orientation and advising, and led a task force re-engaging alumni in the University’s fraternity and sorority system.

University-wide, he helped lead several major administrative groups whose work spurred policy and practice changes toward tripling graduation rates over a 10-year period. Rinehart facilitated the UMRA Board’s planning retreat last fall and is currently its representative to the Senate Retirement Subcommittee.
