The 2017 / 18 Dance season offers a stellar array of world-renowned ballet and contemporary performances, and Northrop invites you to experience them.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. 8 week classes throughout December and January

It’s not something you have to get or acquire, but something that is already within you—a deep, internal resource waiting to be discovered or uncovered. Weisman Art Museum

Start your Saturday with movement  and meditation in the museum. WAM has partnered with U of M alumna and certified yoga instructor Elleni Paulson to offer a donation based vinyasa yoga class on the second Saturday of each month.  Class is open to all ages and levels, please bring your own mat.

Dec. 8, Prince from Minneapolis Preview Party, 7-10 p.m.

Get your groove on and honor the purple one. This exhibition preview party will give you a sneak peek at the Prince from Minneapolis exhibit and will be sure to spark your favorite Prince memory (or make a new one).  View rarely seen photos from Minneapolis photographers, lounge in purple luxury, nosh on small bites, and of course soak in the sounds of DJ Shannon Blowtorch who loves Prince as much as you do.

Jan. 17, Prince in Perspective: A talk with Terry Gydesen, 7 p..m.

Hear from renowned journalistic photographer Terry Gydesen about her experience shooting Prince’s 1993 New Power Generation Tour in Europe. Gydesen will talk about her process as a photographer as well as her experience photographing Minneapolis’s beloved purple one. See Gydesen’s work in the galleries in WAM’s Prince from Minneapolis exhibit.

Meet UMRA member Peter Moe. He retired in 2023 after a career that spanned nearly half a century at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and is credited with developing the “Arb” into one of the few in the U.S. with world-class fruit and landscape breeding programs.

The University Retirees Volunteer Center (URVC) has welcomed two new members with valuable skills and experience to the URVC Leadership Council: Lynn Slifer and Jeanne Jacobson.

The University plans to remove retirees from the @umn.edu internet identity domain on December 7. UMRA has advocated for ensuring continued access to this identity (including email, Google Workspace, and associated services), citing University retirees’ enduring contributions to and engagement with the University. Thus far, our efforts have not prompted any change of plans.

Leading the online Journal of Opinions, Ideas & Essays has been a labor of love for Kris Bettin. Alas, a change in family needs has necessitated her retirement. So, JOIE is seeking a new leader to join a savvy editorial committee of five and bring fresh ideas for continued development of the UMRA-sponsored journal.
