No need to bowl alone

Are you someone who used to bowl and might like to join a University of Minnesota-based bowling league this year?

For the past 60 years, U of M faculty, staff, students, alumni, and retirees have bowled each Thursday on the lanes in the St. Paul Student Center. The Gopher Spot bowling lanes closed July 1 for the development of a new student center in St. Paul, so the league is moving to Goldy’s Gameroom in Coffman Memorial Union. The move has created openings for new bowlers and new teams. The league already has seven teams, each consisting of at least four members.

Bowling takes place at 5:30 p.m. each Thursday for eight weeks in the fall and eight weeks in winter/spring. The cost each week is a modest $11 for bowling and fees (shoes are extra). Everyone gets a handicap to level scores from beginners to advanced, and there are assorted special events throughout the year.

League play at Coffman begins in mid-September, so if you’re interested in joining the fun you should contact one of the league organizers soon: UMRA member Nevin Young at [email protected] or league president Mike Dolan at [email protected].
