Financial planning services for retirees—nice or need to have?

Catherine Van Hoeck and Jason Callin
Workplace Financial Consultants
Fidelity Investments

Location
Event to be held via Zoom.

One of the benefits of the University’s choice of Fidelity Investments to manage retirement funds is that this association allows us to take advantage of some of the financial planning resources of one of the world’s largest asset managers.

UMRA's March 15 workshop will be an overview of these resources—placed in the larger context of how to decide whether one needs financial planning help and what to look for in a financial planner.

Jason Callin

Our presenters will be representatives of Fidelity’s financial planning services, Catherine Van Hoecke and Jason Callin (right). They will take us through the extensive educational resources on the Fidelity website, including articles, webcasts, and online planning tools. They will then talk about free personal consultations with Fidelity reps, the range of their fee-based planning services, and the line between free and fee-based services.

The focus will then shift to a more general discussion about financial planning:

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of engaging a financial planner versus managing your finances on your own?
  • What can a financial planner do for you?
  • What are the qualities to look for in a financial planner? What are the qualities to avoid?
  • What are the pros and cons of different financial planning fee systems?
  • Should you hire a planner with a large institution? An independent planner? Both?

Please register for this Zoom webinar and join us from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15. Note the earlier-than-usual start time and extra length of the workshop.

This webinar will not be recorded because rules of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority do not allow Fidelity representatives to have their presentations recorded.  However, the slides will be available for review on the Fidelity website after the workshop.

—Ron Matross, UMRA president-elect and Program Committee chair
