Informational webinar on transferring emails

Thu, Feb 22 2024, 9:30am

Location
Event to be held via Zoom.

TO: UMRA members who have an umn.edu email and who do not have emeritus status

I'm pleased to share with you the invitation (below) from UMN OIT for a training session (Feb. 22, 9:30am - 11:00am, via Zoom) to provide information on how to transfer your umn.edu emails and contacts to another platform - either the @alumnus.umn.edu one or another you might already have.

The deadline for completion of this transfer is Dec. 7, 2024 but many of you have requested assistance and would like to finish the process sooner rather than later.

Please note that people with emeritus status are not affected by the university's plan to terminate umn.edu email accounts. This is only for people with a umn.edu email account who are not emeritus. There are other classifications that will be discussed or that can be addressed on an individual basis e.g. student status, continuing UMN appointments, and Person of Interest status. If you have questions that are not addressed, there will be a Q&A portion as well as a follow up contact to handle these specific cases. You can also submit your questions ahead of time through the form linked in the invitation below. The invitation includes the link where you can RSVP for the session.

UMRA President

Dear UMRA community,

As you may be aware, the University of Minnesota will discontinue offering email to people who have retired or graduated from the University (see Changes to Email and Google Workspace). I invite you to attend an informational webinar on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to hear from the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and University Information Security (UIS) about how the University will support you through this transition.

Please RSVP to receive a link to attend this session by February 20, 2024 at 3 p.m. The 90-minute agenda will include

Overview and background for the changes to email and Google Workspace

  • Review of resources available
  • Live demonstrations of how to set up your alumni account; and how transfer your emails and contacts to your new alumni email account or to your personal email account
  • Live demonstration of how to transfer your documents and other files to a personal Google Workspace account
  • Safe computing considerations and tips from University Information Security

How to Prepare for the Session

  • Submit your questions in advance via the RSVP form, to ensure that the presenters focus their discussion on what matters to you most
  • Bring your umn.edu email address and password so you can follow along with the demonstration.
  • If you have created an alumni account, bring the email address and password.

There will be an opportunity for you to submit questions over the Q&A feature of the webinar, and will be answered as time permits.
