Arboretum hike
Mon, May 6, 2024, 9:30am
We are so fortunate to have UMRA member and former Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Director Peter Moe to lead this approximately 3.7 mile hike at the Arboretum on Monday, May 6!
We will meet on the welcoming terrace in front of the Oswald Visitor Center at 9:30 am to start our hike. We will travel through the Arboretum's Display Gardens to to the beginning of the 3-Mile Walk. The 3-Mile Walk starts near the Sensory Garden and continues through the Woodland Wildflower Garden, the Shade Tree Exhibit, Tall Grass Prairie and many other gardens and plant collections. At the Rhododendron Garden we will leave the 3 Mile Walk and head up to the Farm at the Arb where we will see the 1920 Red Barn and the Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center. We will return to the 3-Mile Walk and continue past the Sphagnum Bog and Green Heron Pond to the Display Gardens and Oswald Visitor Center where we started the hike. The total of all segments is approximately 3.7 miles.
The Arboretum restaurant is a lovely place to gather after the hike. Plan to have lunch together at the restaurant inside the Oswald Visitor Center after the hike.
Please sign up for this hike (required). Your completed form will be used to buy tickets, and to be sure everyone has arrived. Registrations will be accepted up to 24 hours before the hike.
Peter will arrange for a group rate of $17. Any UMRA members who are also Arboretum Members should request free admission tickets at https://arb.umn.edu/Tickets. Peter will order Group Tickets for Non-Members who register for this hike on our UMRA Hiking Club page by April 28 and the Arb Gatehouse will have a group list and allow each person to enter.
Peter will need $17 cash from each pre-registered group member the day of the hike. Admission to the Arboretum is good for the entire day and following the hike participants are welcome to explore as much of the 1,200 acres of woods, plant collections and native plant restorations as they wish.
You won't want to miss this hike!!
